Young Woman Fatally Stabbed While Waiting for in Kiambu

Detectives have launched separate investigations into two unrelated weekend tragedies: the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old woman at a bus stop in Kiambu County, and the discovery of a missing man’s body in a river in Tharaka Nithi County.

Police in Lari, Kiambu County, are hunting for suspects following the brutal murder of a 22-year-old woman in the early hours of Sunday, July 5.

The victim, identified as Mukuhi Tabitha Waithira, was waiting to board a matatu (public minibus) at Nakuru Stage when she was attacked. According to preliminary reports, Waithira was intending to travel to Naivasha, where she was employed at Sanctuary Farm.

A resident living opposite the bus stage reported being awakened around 5:00 a.m. by a man shouting in Swahili, “Unaenda Nakuru?” (Are you going to Nakuru?), followed immediately by a woman’s screams.

Investigators state that Waithira sustained a deep stab wound to her upper left leg. In a desperate attempt to find help, she ran to a nearby hotel but collapsed at the entrance and succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance could arrive.

Responding officers found the victim lying in a pool of blood. Crime scene personnel documented the area, and the body was transferred to Uphome Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. A clear motive for the attack has not yet been established.

Decomposed Body of Missing Man Recovered from Naka River

In a separate incident on Sunday, authorities in Tharaka Nithi County recovered the body of a 50-year-old man from the Naka River in Chuka North Sub-County.

The deceased, identified as David Kirimi Kanga, had been missing for approximately one week before a relative spotted his body floating in the river at Kibumbu Village and alerted the police.

According to responding officers, Kanga’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition. The scene was processed by investigators, and the remains were moved to Chuka General Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have opened a sudden death inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding how Kanga ended up in the river.
