The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has launched its application portal for the 2026 intake, inviting students to apply for degree courses as well as Level 4, 5 and 6 TVET programmes.

The online application window opened on April 7, 2026, and will close on May 6, 2026.

The exercise mainly targets candidates who sat the 2025 KCSE, along with Form Four leavers from previous years.

Students from the 2025 KCSE cohort can apply for both degree and TVET courses, with all applications submitted through the KUCCPS online portal.

To qualify for degree programmes, applicants must have a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus). Meanwhile, candidates who scored between A and E in KCSE from 2000 to 2025 are eligible for TVET courses.

Successful applicants for degree programmes are expected to report to universities in September, while those joining TVET institutions will begin from May under a rolling placement system.

KUCCPS officials, led by board chairperson Cyrus Gituai and CEO Agnes Wahome, briefed Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on the readiness for the placement process.

The agency received results from 980,444 candidates who sat the 2025 KCSE, with 268,700 attaining C+ and above, qualifying for university placement across 43 public and 31 private institutions.

The remaining 711,744 candidates, who scored between C plain and E, qualify for placement in TVET institutions and public colleges.

This year, 251 public TVET colleges, including 33 affiliated with universities, are available for placement.

Candidates who achieved C+ and above between 2000 and 2025 can also apply for degree programmes at the Open University of Kenya.

Placement will be conducted based on merit, considering course choices, KCSE performance, and available capacity, as outlined in the Universities Act 2012.

Universities and colleges had earlier submitted their programmes and capacities for approval by the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the TVET Authority (TVETA).

Universities have a total capacity of 322,396 slots for degree programmes, while TVET institutions can accommodate 1,132,531 students in diploma, certificate, and artisan courses. Teacher training colleges have 2,480 available slots.

To support applicants, KUCCPS officers will be stationed in institutions across all counties, while additional assistance will be available at Huduma centres nationwide.

The agency has already trained Huduma Kenya service agents from 59 centres to help students and parents during the application period.

Recently, KUCCPS completed placements to KMTC (March intake), Kenya School of Law (May intake for paralegal studies), and Utalii College (October intake).

Students from the 2025 KCSE cohort who wish to join KMTC will get another chance to apply for the September 2026 intake after university placements are finalised.

Candidates who retook specific subjects to meet KMTC requirements will also be eligible to apply.
