A Chinese national filmed attacking a Kenyan employee at a mabati factory has been dismissed, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya has confirmed.
A viral undated video sparked public outrage after showing the man striking a Kenyan worker with roofing sheets inside what appears to be a warehouse. The incident reportedly occurred at the TCM Mabati Factory in Uasin Gishu County, where the assailant served as a manager.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Chinese Embassy condemned the behaviour and stressed that all Chinese citizens in Kenya must respect local laws and customs.
“We are deeply disappointed by this incident. We have been informed that the company immediately fired the Chinese employee and is considering further disciplinary measures,” the Embassy said.
The statement added that while the matter is isolated, it should not undermine cooperation between Chinese and Kenyan enterprises, reminding all Chinese nationals to uphold mutual respect and follow Kenya’s laws and cultural norms.
The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) had earlier denounced the act, urging the government to deport the manager. COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, in a statement to Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, termed the incident a serious breach of the worker’s rights and dignity, insisting that assault of Kenyan employees by foreigners cannot be tolerated.
The union demanded the immediate deportation of the Chinese national, warning that failing to act would erode the trust of Kenyan workers in the ministry.
Meanwhile, another video circulating online shows the Kenyan worker saying he had reconciled with his supervisor and forgiven him.
“I have forgiven him, and I still want to continue working here. If any issue arises again, we will discuss it in the office. I accept my mistake, but I have forgiven him,” the worker said after the incident.
