State To Prioritize Disbursement of CDF Funds For Bursaries – MP Nyoro

Ndindi Nyoro, the chairperson of the budget committee in the National Assembly, has assured the public that the government is actively working on releasing National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF) funds earmarked for educational scholarships.

Addressing a group of fellow MPs in his constituency, Nyoro emphasized the significance of these funds, noting that many parents rely on bursaries provided through the NGCDF to educate their children. As schools are set to reopen in the coming week, he stated that the government is giving priority to the NGCDF, consolidating collected revenue to ensure the timely disbursement of funds allocated for scholarships.

This assurance comes at a time when numerous parents are grappling with financial challenges, struggling to afford school fees for their children amidst the prevailing high cost of living.

Earlier in the week, the government allocated Sh31 billion for the education sector, with Sh4.74 billion dedicated to free primary education and Sh7.60 billion earmarked for capitation in junior secondary schools for the first term.

Nyoro highlighted the commitment to release NGCDF funds for scholarships, aligning with the new law passed by MPs in November 2023. This law increased the allocation for educational bursaries from 35 percent to 40 percent of the NGCDF. Additionally, the NGCDF fund amendment act raised the allocation for environmental activities from two percent to five percent to address climate change and introduced a three percent allocation for constituencies’ digital hubs.
