The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Harriet Mary Wabwire posed as the Director of OTD Group Limited and claimed she could supply aluminium alloys.

She reportedly issued the victim with forged documents, including a fake Bill of Lading and a counterfeit Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) certificate.

The fraudulent paperwork falsely indicated that a 23,890kg consignment of aluminium alloys had been packed in a 40-foot container for shipment from Mombasa to Ningbo, China.

After receiving the funds, Wabwire switched off her phone, prompting the Chinese investor to report the matter. A swift investigation led to her arrest at a hideout in Tassia, Embakasi East, Nairobi.

She is currently in custody and will be charged in court.
