The ODM senator, known for his candid criticism of Ruto’s “broad-based government” formed after a political truce with ODM leader Raila Odinga, dismissed speculation that he was eyeing the recently filled Gender Cabinet Secretary position.

During a discussion on a local TV station on Thursday morning, fellow ODM senator Tom Ojienda hinted that Sifuna may have been interested in the role now held by Hanna Cheptumo. Sifuna responded with humor, saying, “I know why he’d say that—because I’m popular with women, which can’t be said about him.”

He went on to clarify, “I have no intention of serving in this government. I would never accept a Cabinet position. I’m not Makau Mutua or the others,” referencing Odinga’s former campaign spokesperson recently appointed as Ruto’s constitutional affairs advisor.

Sifuna also revealed that he will not run for any other political seat in the 2027 elections. “I am committed to serving Nairobi as senator. Come 2027, I will still seek the same seat—nothing more.”

He has also criticized fellow ODM members who have embraced Ruto’s administration, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing them of failing to hold the government accountable and turning a blind eye to citizens’ concerns.

In retaliation, allies of President Ruto have labeled Sifuna and his supporters as obstructers of the inclusive government arrangement.
