144 Civilians Killed, 732 Injured in Myanmar – Military Leader

At least 144 people have died and 732 injured so far in Myanmar, following an earthquake that struck the center of the country.

The BBC Burma team says these figures come from Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing, who says the figures are expected to rise.

Explaining the new toll, the military leader says 96 people have died in Nay Pyi Taw, 18 in Saigaing and 30 in Mandalay.

As for the wounded, 132 of these are from Nay Pyi Taw and 300 are from Sagaing, with the number still being assessed in other areas – military figures say.

In Thailand, as we reported, three people have died following the collapse of an apartment building.
