The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across most regions of the country in the coming days.

According to their five-day weather prediction, rainfall is expected to persist nationwide, with isolated areas likely to experience intense rainfall, particularly in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, the Coast, and parts of northeastern and northwestern Kenya.
Several regions, including Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, and Narok, will see rain, with occasional breaks for sunny spells. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to intensify in the afternoons.
Dr. David Gikungu, Director of the Kenya Meteorological Department, stated that counties like Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Nyandarua, and Nairobi will experience isolated showers and thunderstorms during the night. The morning will be cloudy with light rainfall in some areas, which will transition to sunny periods. Thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon.
In Turkana and Samburu, showers and thunderstorms are expected in isolated areas along the Turkana-South Sudan border at night. Light rain will occur in the morning, with breaks for sunshine. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also predicted in the afternoon.
In Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, and Isiolo counties, rainfall will be confined to a few areas during the night, with morning showers followed by breaks in the clouds and afternoon thunderstorms in a few places.
The South-Eastern lowlands, including counties like Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado, will also experience showers and thunderstorms overnight. Cloudy conditions are expected in the morning with occasional rain, followed by sunny intervals. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely over isolated areas.
Along the Coast, including Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River, rainfall will be sporadic, with a few showers expected in the morning and at night, followed by breaks in the clouds for sunshine.
The IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre’s seasonal rainfall forecast for April to June predicts drier-than-usual conditions for south-eastern Ethiopia, central to southern Somalia, eastern Kenya, and parts of western Uganda and South Sudan.
