Three Kenyans were among five people who died in a fire that broke out in a high-rise residential building in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Both Kenyan and UAE authorities confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday.
Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary in Kenya’s State Department for Diaspora Affairs, expressed condolences to the affected families, saying the government stands with them during this difficult time.
Sharjah Police reported that the fire started on the 42nd floor of the 52-story building and left 19 others injured. Investigations are underway to determine the cause, with forensic teams inspecting the scene.
According to Gulf News, the victims, all of African origin, died while trying to escape.
Emergency teams safely evacuated 148 residents from the building.
