Accompanied by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, the media mogul later met Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga, at their Opada home in Bondo.
“I came to comfort Mama Ida following the loss of her husband, who was like my younger brother. Our friendship goes back to the time of Jaramogi,” said Dr. Macharia, referring to Kenya’s first vice president, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
He added, “Jaramogi asked me to look after his sons Raila and Oburu, and since then, we have been like family.”
Dr. Macharia praised Raila as “a great man, just like his father,” and pledged continued support for his family.
“Take heart, Mama Ida. We stand with you,” he said, noting that the full impact of Raila’s contribution to Kenya would be felt for generations.
Ida Odinga expressed gratitude for Dr. Macharia’s unwavering friendship and support since the 1990s, saying, “He has walked with us through many journeys. May God bless you abundantly.”
