A family in Marsabit County is mourning after a man and his son were killed in a grenade explosion at their home in Karare area, Saku Constituency, on Wednesday afternoon.

Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo said officers are working with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to investigate the source of the grenade, which is suspected to have been picked from a nearby field. He urged residents to avoid handling suspicious objects and to report any such findings to security agencies immediately.

The bodies of the victims were taken to the local mortuary as investigations continue. Explosives of this nature are reportedly common in the region, where government security agencies often conduct training.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Likoni, Mombasa County, a senior police officer sustained serious burns after being attacked with hot water by his wife following a domestic quarrel.

The officer, an inspector attached to the DCI office in Koloa, Baringo County, was at home on leave when the altercation occurred. His wife fled the scene after the attack, leaving him with injuries to the face.

Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno confirmed that efforts to track down the suspect were underway, adding that the officer was in stable condition in hospital.

Police have raised concern over the rising number of domestic violence cases across the country, some of which have ended in death. They urged couples to seek peaceful ways to resolve conflicts to prevent further tragedies.
