In a significant legislative development, the Kitui County Assembly has approved the Supplementary Budget I for the Financial Year 2024/2025.
The budget, amounting to Kshs. 14,840,016,748, is set to fund both recurrent and development expenditures aimed at advancing the county’s agenda and addressing pressing local needs.
The motion to adopt the report of the County Budget and Appropriations Committee on the consideration of the budget estimates was moved by Jacqueline Kalenga (NOMINATED), the vice chairperson of the committee, and seconded by Bonface Mukwate (KANYANGI). The approval was reached after thorough deliberation during the evening session of the assembly.
While presenting the motion, Hon. Kalenga emphasized that the committee ensured the budget reflects the priorities of Kitui residents. She highlighted that the budget meets the statutory requirement of allocating at least 30% to development projects, in line with Section 107(2)(b) of the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act, 2012.
Members of the assembly lauded the Budget and Appropriations Committee for its diligent work in preparing a well-balanced budget. They urged the County Executive to commit to the full implementation of the approved allocations, ensuring that the intended projects and services reach the citizens of Kitui.
Presiding over the afternoon plenary session, Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya commended the assembly members for their active engagement and dedication throughout the budget approval process.
He acknowledged their collective efforts in representing the public interest and facilitating the passage of the supplementary budget.
