This initiative stems from a partnership between HELB and KMTC aimed at supporting students pursuing certificate and diploma courses by easing their financial load.

According to HELB, the application process is available to both first-time and continuing students.

Application Process

For New Applicants:
Students should visit www.hef.co.ke, create an account using their national ID number, a valid email address, and a mobile number registered in their name.

After verifying the account via an email activation link, applicants must complete their profile by providing personal, academic, and family details, then upload all required documents.
They must then select the KMTC loan product, agree to the terms, and submit the application along with guarantor details.

For Continuing Students:
Those who have previously received HELB support can apply through the HELB mobile app (available on Google Play) or by dialing *642#.

Students must register using their mobile number to receive a one-time login password.
Only numbers registered under the applicant’s name are accepted. Once logged in, they can update their details and submit the loan renewal request.

The opening of the application window comes after the government’s allocation of KSh58.5 billion for higher education loans and scholarships, part of a broader initiative to enhance access to education and minimize student dropout rates caused by financial hardship.

HELB encourages all eligible KMTC students to apply within the application window to secure funding.
