Diogo Dalot Misses Man United Class Vs The Saints

A one-match suspension for a red card in the FA Cup win against Arsenal means the full-back is unavailable. This marks the first United game Dalot has missed all season, presenting manager Ruben Amorim with a selection dilemma at left wing-back, where the Portuguese defender has recently played.

Several options are available: Tyrell Malacia performed well as a substitute in that position against Arsenal and is a strong contender. Noussair Mazraoui could switch to the left, opening up the right flank for a more attacking player like Amad, Alejandro Garnacho, or Antony.

Amorim sees this forced change as an opportunity. “It’s important to have these opportunities to see other players, to freshen up the team,” he told MUTV. “It’s a chance for someone else.” He also noted some players were fatigued after the last match. “We can’t afford long-term absences, and the squad is ready for the demands of the game. There are no changes to player availability.”

Toby Collyer, who played left-back against Barnsley in September (his last senior appearance before his impressive cup cameo at Arsenal), is also in contention. Amorim has been impressed with the 21-year-old midfielder’s training performances since returning from injury. “He’s training with the team, he’s part of the squad,” Amorim said. “He has great ability, pace, humility, and work ethic, so he’s another option.”

Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans remain sidelined, having last played in the Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham. Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are also still recovering at Carrington.

While Altay Bayindir was the hero in goal against Arsenal, Andre Onana has started all 58 Premier League games since joining United in the summer of 2023.
