The decision was made during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Chui House in Nairobi, where members emphasised the need to maintain peace and stability ahead of upcoming by-elections.
In a statement, the NEC pledged to “uphold peace, strengthen stability, and focus our full energy on the impending by-elections by fielding strong, credible candidates and rallying the entire party machinery to deliver victories.”
The party reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and its constitution, saying these principles would guide efforts to preserve unity and enhance service to members and the nation.
The move comes amid recent disagreements among senior leaders following remarks by Secretary General Eseli Simiyu, who revealed that petitions had been filed calling for leadership changes — including the removal of the party leader and alterations to the deputy party leader position.
Deputy Party Leader George Natembeya expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to restore order, saying:
“We want to clean our house as we prepare to take the leadership of this country, and we have agreed we must have internal democracy.”
Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa said he would respect the committee’s findings, noting:
“If the committee recommends leadership changes as per the petitions filed, we will accept the report — but the party will not be destroyed.”
