Boda Boda Rider Dies in Kagio Road Accident

A boda boda rider was killed instantly on Wednesday morning following a crash at Kagio town along the Sagana–Kutus road in Kirinyaga County.

Eyewitnesses said the rider, who was heading towards Kutus, lost control of his motorcycle and rolled several times while trying to avoid an oncoming lorry.

According to local resident Julius Waweru, the evasive move to swerve away from the lorry triggered the fatal accident.

The tragedy sparked fresh concerns among traders and residents about overspeeding on the busy stretch of road, especially with construction of the new Kagio market underway.

“Drivers must observe traffic rules since traders operate right next to the road. This incident has again exposed the risks of reckless driving,” said resident Peter Magondu.

Traffic officers from Sagana Police Station responded to the scene and moved the body to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary.

The victim, who hailed from Mung’ang’a village, was alone at the time of the crash. Waweru noted that boda boda accidents have been on the rise, warning of the increasing fatalities linked to the sector.
