An American Airlines plane has collided with a helicopter in mid-air in Washington DC, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The accident occurred while approaching Reagan Washington National Airport Road at around 9 p.m. local time.
The relevant authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
The plane crashed into the Potomac River, according to the Fire Department.
The department said in a message on the X network that firefighting boats had arrived at the river.
Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) has suspended all flights while emergency services deal with the crash.
“All takeoffs and landings have been suspended at DCA Airport,” the airport said on X.com.
“Emergency personnel are at the scene.”
