In a bid to foster inclusivity and promote female participation in sports, Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili inaugurated the First Edition of the Unified Sports Tournament at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) grounds in Wote, Makueni.

The tournament, spanning two days, has brought together 132 athletes, marking a significant step towards inclusion in sports. Among the participants are 72 individuals with intellectual disabilities, 60 unified partners, and 24 coaches, showcasing the county’s commitment to providing equal opportunities in sports.

According to DG Mulili, this groundbreaking event is a result of a collaborative effort between the Government of Makueni County and global sportswear giant Nike, in partnership with Special Olympics.

The initiative aims to break barriers and empower individuals with intellectual disabilities, particularly women, through sports.

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili emphasized the importance of creating platforms for all individuals to showcase their talents and capabilities, regardless of their background or abilities.

She praised the participants for their courage and determination, urging the community to support and celebrate their achievements.

Through initiatives like the Unified Sports Tournament, the county aims to inspire positive change and create a more inclusive and accepting community for all.
