Three men were shot and killed in a brutal attack on Sunday, October 5, 2025, in Angata Barikoi area, located along the border of Ntimaru and Transmara subcounties in Migori County.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the victims — identified as John Marwa Babere (25), Sibora Mirumbe (24), and Joseph Mwisari (23) — were responding to an alarm after raiders invaded the nearby Gairoro area when they were ambushed.

The assailants reportedly opened fire before slashing the victims, killing them on the spot. The attackers later fled the scene.
Police suspect the incident may have been linked to cattle theft, a recurring issue in the region. The attack sparked tension among residents, who demanded swift justice and tighter security.
Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and deployed additional officers to the area to prevent possible retaliation. The bodies of the three victims were taken to the mortuary for postmortem examination.
The Ntimaru-Transmara border region has been plagued by frequent cases of cattle rustling and violent clashes, often tied to land disputes.
Officials say security teams, including the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, remain stationed in the area to curb the violence.
In April 2025, a similar confrontation over land left six people dead, underscoring the persistent insecurity in the region.
Meanwhile, the government has continued its broader crackdown on banditry through Operation Maliza Uhalifu, targeting counties such as Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Meru, and Isiolo.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the long-term strategy involves empowering communities through sustainable livelihoods, including access to subsidized farm inputs and agricultural extension services, to reduce dependence on livestock raids.
In a separate incident in Mikinduri, Meru County, police confirmed that Peter Kaarithi succumbed to injuries following an assault. He died while receiving treatment at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, and investigations into the murder are underway.
