Six suspects were arrested on Sunday after an attempted house break-in in the Jokim area of South B, Nairobi.
Police say the group — which included a woman and a Tanzanian citizen — is suspected of being part of a wider burglary ring targeting several Nairobi estates, among them Westlands, Parklands, South B, South C, Lavington and Kilimani.

The arrests come after weeks of reports of homes being raided while residents were away, particularly over weekends and holidays. Detectives suspect that some security guards in various estates may have aided the gang, though investigations into this claim are still underway.
Makadara Sub-County Police Commander Judith Nyongesa said the suspects mainly stole electronics, clothing and cash. The gang allegedly gained access using master keys and specialised break-in tools, and moved around in three vehicles — a Toyota Prado, Nissan X-Trail and Mazda Demio — believed to have fake number plates.
Police also suspect the stolen items were sold outside the country.
The suspects were caught on Sunday, November 16, 2025, as they attempted to break into a home whose owners were away. The homeowners noticed suspicious activity through their CCTV cameras and alerted their caretaker and a neighbour, who then contacted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
CCTV footage shows a police vehicle blocking the suspects’ black car just as they tried to escape. Officers ordered the occupants out at gunpoint and arrested them.
According to police, one suspect has been linked to previous break-ins, while another — of Indian descent — had appeared in earlier CCTV recordings. The woman is believed to have acted as a lookout, monitoring the surroundings and warning the group of approaching security.

Detectives recovered fake number plates and various tools suspected to have been used in the burglaries.
Police are urging anyone who may have been a victim of similar break-ins to file reports to aid the investigation.
Nyongesa also advised Nairobi residents to enhance home security ahead of the holiday season, noting many people travel at this time.
“With the festive season approaching, we expect increased travel. We urge residents to ensure their homes are well secured — starting with trusted guards and reliable surveillance systems,” she said.
